Abstract
Language development plays an important role in everyday life and functioning. Therefore noticing early problems may prevent problems in the future. A new vocabulary test for toddlers, the WoordenschatLex, might be able to screen for early language problems. The aim of this study is to investigate if the WoordenschatLex can measure the vocabulary of toddlers, if there is a difference between boys and girls who make the test and between passive and active vocabulary. The investigation will be done by an experiment with 95 children who will make the test and their caregivers will fill in a background questionnaire. The results show a significant effect of plaatnummer on total vocabulary score and for the passive vocabulary score, but not for the active score. No moderation effect for gender was found. The results show that the WoordenschatLex does indeed measure the passive vocabulary of children, but not the active vocabulary. And gender does not seem to predict the outcome.
