Abstract
In this paper, I reviewed the role of retinoid signaling during neural tube development, the pathway(s) through which RA exerts its effect, with its time and space specific context, and I will propose a set of genes associated with this pathway that may be used to characterize (potential) teratogenic effects of compounds on neural tube development. Additionally, I will give two examples of compounds that are known to interfere with RA signaling and cause neural tube defects and I will propose an AOP for each of these compounds.
