Abstract
This thesis discusses Oscar Wilde's use of the discourse of Art in his effort to not comply with late nineteenth-century thought on homosexual identity. Even though Londoners came to think of Wilde as a homosexual, he refuted these accusations by drawing upon a contradicting and alternative discourse. This thesis thus shows the undeniable force of agency, something that has been underestimated by Michel Foucault.
