Abstract

In this thesis, the results of a research project on Extraordinary Optical Transmission (EOT) through a gold film containing periodic hole structures are reported. The Poor Man’s Setup built for this research consisted of a white light LED for illumination purposes and an OceanOptics S2000 spec- trometer for measuring spectra. The setup proved capable of reproducibly measuring EOT and allowing quantitative analysis of the spectrum. The measured enhanced transmission peaks occured at wavelengths ranging from where theory predicted transmission peaks to occur up to positions 4% red- shifted with respect to theoretical calculations. The Rayleigh anomaly was observed at the predicted wavelength of 770 nm, equalling the periodicity of the structures.
