Abstract
This paper examines the role of politics in the relation between music and nationalism. It focuses on the case of Greek music genre ‘rebetiko’. Policies concerning the use or reproduction of rebetiko music, both by authoritarian and democratic regimes, are investigated under the light of theories of nationalism.
