Computer-aided paleography; identifying hands in Irish manuscripts

Abstract

When done by hand, identifying hands in Old Irish manuscripts is time consuming and not very objective. In recent years computer programs were developed, originally as an aid for forensic researchers, but they can also be of use to paleographers. I have examined if and how these programs can be of aid with regard to Irish manuscripts.
